Maldives a beautiful string of low-lying coral islands in the Indian Ocean
Welcome to the Maldives, where sands are white as the smiles of the locals, where fish swim happily in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, where the weather is a dream, and the deep rays of the sun wait to engulf you their arms.
Maldives has deep blue seas, turquoise reefs, white sandy beaches and palm trees. It is also a place full of character, where its people have long spent their days languishing in the very essence of idyll living.
The country is made up of 1,190 coral islands formed around 26 natural ring-like atolls, spread over 90,000 square kilometers.
For Maldivians, who love a good story, it is somehow fitting that the early history of the country is enshrined in myth and legend.
The islands of Maldives appear in-between the trading route of the Indian Ocean. Thus settlers, and visitors from neighbouring regions and around the world have come in contact with the islands for as long as history has been recorded.
The islands are protected by thousands of reefs that need to be alive for this unique archipelago to exist in future. The corals on our reefs need its countlessinhabitants to feed on them for the corals to re-grow.
The weather in the Maldives is usually picture perfect: sunlit days, breezy nights, balmy mornings, and iridescent sunsets.
KendhooThe Island of historical and cultural significance.
Kendhoo lies in the northern group of islands in the Baa Atoll with a population of 1,050 people which comprises of 572 men and 488 women.
HistoryYou will get to know.
This tomb is the first converting place of Islam religion at Maldives in 1153 A.D. by Maulana Al-Hafiz Abul Barakaath Yoosuf Al-Barbari of Morocco. He died on 11th February 1154 A.D. (26 Zulqaidha 548 A.H) Built in the 12th century, this tomb was called “Magaamfulhu of Kendhoo” as a result of its admiration and its reverence significant over the other tombs of Maldives. Offerings and prayers were attributed to the Magaamfulhu prior to 1990 when such practices were officially unrecognized. The Magaamfulhu is a significant heritage site with immense social and historic value and is maintained by the Department of Heritage.
